Maltitol is a sweetener that is used mainly in food due to its sweetening properties.
✅ Maltitol is a white powder with a sweet taste. It belongs to organic chemical compounds from the group of polyols (sugar alcohols). In the industry, it is marked as E965i (powder) or W965ii (maltitol syrup).
✅ Maltitol occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables. It is mainly obtained from maltose found in cereal grains. Maltitol can be found in olives, corn, potatoes, figs, chicory leaves, and wheat.
✅ Maltitol, like other sugar alcohols, can cause short-term diarrhea, which is why the packaging of products sweetened with this ingredient states "may have a laxative effect in excessive amounts." It is recommended not to exceed 15-20 g per day (approx. 3-4 teaspoons). Some literature data indicate a value twice as high.
