Matcha Premium Japan Ceremonial - Powdered Japanese Matcha Green Tea 100g

Royal Brand Matcha is a Japanese ceremonial organic matcha, produced from green tea leaves from the first spring harvest (ichibancha).

The leaves are shaded before harvesting, and then traditionally ground on stone mills, which ensures a very fine powder structure, intense green color, and a smooth, creamy brew.

Royal Brand Matcha is characterized by a clean flavor profile:

  • distinct umami
  • natural, light sweetness
  • low bitterness compared to culinary matchas

Thanks to this, it is a good choice for drinking pure, as well as for matcha latte.

Royal Brand is often highly rated in Polish matcha rankings and chosen as an option with a very good quality-to-price ratio in the ceremonial matcha segment.

Recommended for those looking for authentic, high-quality Japanese matcha without overpaying for a premium brand.

Application:

This type of matcha is the most expensive because it is shaded with special cloths for over a week before harvesting and comes from the first flush!

Used for centuries during traditional tea ceremonies in Japan, this is the highest grade of Matcha available.

This variety is produced from the first flush. The tea leaves are the youngest and least exposed to sunlight, which increases chlorophyll content. Ceremonial Matcha powder therefore has the most vibrant green hue among different grades.

Stems and veins are removed before grinding the leaves into powder. Therefore, Matcha produced through this process has a naturally delicate consistency and sweet taste.

Thicker than other matcha grades, it foams beautifully. It has a smooth taste with a light hint of sweetness - perfect for tea ceremonies.

Ceremonial Matcha should be consumed in its original form to fully experience the taste of the best variety of this tea.

First Flush vs Second Flush Matcha

If you often drink matcha tea, you've probably encountered the terms "first-flush" and "second flush" (ichibancha or nibancha), and the price of first flush tea is significantly higher. If you're not sure why, let me explain below.

Why is first flush matcha better?

In winter, tea buds hibernate for several months, awaiting the arrival of spring. During this time, they accumulate all valuable nutrients, making them exceptionally rich and full of flavor.

As the saying goes, "Quality takes time." First flush tea leaves grow slowly in cold conditions, drawing the best from nature over a longer period. As a result, first flush matcha is unparalleled in quality and taste, offering a more intense experience for true connoisseurs.

Why is first flush tea better?

L-theanine is a key source of umami, the plant sweetness that defines the quality and character of matcha. First flush matcha contains three times more L-theanine than second flush tea. In later flushes, such as the third and fourth, the L-theanine content is even lower. Additionally, the first flush accumulates the greatest amount of nutrients in the leaves.

If you have ever tried a very bitter matcha, it was probably not a first flush tea. Bitterness is not synonymous with matcha flavor; high-quality matcha has an intense, full flavor with minimal bitterness, which means you don't need to add sugar to balance the taste.

For both taste and health benefits, it is worth choosing only first flush matcha. Only such matcha can be considered true ceremonial matcha, which is consumed only with water. To meet the growing demand, many farmers produce matcha from later flushes, but only first flush matcha guarantees the highest quality and authenticity.

How to recognize good matcha?

We recognize good matcha mainly by its color. It must be intensely green, because the higher and younger the leaves, the more chlorophyll they have, which is responsible for the intensely green color. Leaves growing lower are more yellow because they have less light. Therefore, the more intensely green the matcha is, the better leaves were used to produce it, and the more yellow it is, the older and from lower parts of the plant.

It's not just us who think this matcha is exceptional 🍵
