The tonka tree is a tropical plant from the legume family, found naturally in Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, and Nigeria.
It is used, for example, in the production of fragrances, but interestingly, its fruit is not only used for perfumes.
It is also used to make soap and tobacco – where it serves as an aroma enhancer. The tree is also called cumaru – and the beans themselves are referred to as coumarin.
