How to Traditionally Prepare Matcha Tea – Ritual and Art in Your Home
Preparing matcha tea is more than just brewing – it is an ancient ritual that allows for a moment of relaxation, focus and harmony.
In Japan, the matcha ceremony, called *chanoyu*, is considered an art that requires precision and attention to detail. Our organic Japanese matcha tea is perfect for traditional preparation and will transport you to the heart of Japan.
#### How to prepare traditional matcha tea? Step by step:
1. **Prepare the dishes**
To brew matcha, you will need a bowl (*chawan*), a bamboo measuring cup (*chashaku*), and a bamboo whisk (*chasen*). These traditional accessories will add elegance and authenticity to your ritual.
2. **Measure the right amount of matcha**
For one cup of matcha, pour about 1-2 scoops (1-2 g) of organic matcha tea into a bowl. Our organic matcha is characterized by a deep, green color and a delicate umami flavor, so you can enjoy its authentic aroma.
3. **Add water at the right temperature**
Matcha requires water at around 70-80°C – hot but not boiling. Water that is too hot can affect the flavour of the tea, making it bitter. Add around 70-100ml of water to the bowl.
4. **Beat the matcha with a bamboo whisk**
Use a bamboo whisk (*chasen*) to whisk the tea in a quick "W" or "M" motion. After about 15-20 seconds, a light foam should appear on the surface of the tea, indicating the right consistency. This process releases the full flavor and aroma of the matcha.
5. **Savor the moment**
Matcha tea is not meant to be drunk quickly – it is a drink to be savored. In Japan, the moment in which we drink matcha symbolizes peace and focus on the here and now.
#### Why is it worth preparing matcha the traditional way?
Traditionally prepared matcha tea is a way to immerse yourself in Japanese culture and reap the health benefits of matcha. Matcha is rich in antioxidants, caffeine, and L-theanine, which together provide energy and aid concentration.
#### Buy authentic Japanese organic matcha tea
